With the popularization and increase in the number of new energy electric vehicles, the demand for car charging has also increased. In areas with dense numbers of electric vehicles, people often queue up at public charging piles to wait for charging. In order to avoid long waits, especially in the hot summer, many car owners will choose to install home charging piles and charge at home with peace of mind. However, there are many types of home community charging piles on the market, with different power, current, voltage, quality, and installation requirements, which makes car owners dazzled when choosing to buy home charging, and the requirements for installing cables are not worry-free.


1. Classification of household charging piles


Generally, household charging piles can be divided into 3.5kw and 7kw according to the rated charging power. The rated current of the 3.5kw charging pile is 16A, and the rated current of the 7kw charging pile is 32A.


Both types of charging piles are connected to the household 220V single-phase electricity.


When a normal car owner buys a car, he will usually get a 3.5kw/16A portable charger or charging pile in the original mode 2. Now some will also give a 7kw charging pile.


2. Requirements for the installation of cables for household charging piles


Normally, household charging piles are connected to 220V single-phase electricity, but the power and current are different, and the cables and air switches for connecting the electricity are different. A 3.5kw charger or charging pile is connected to a 4 square cable. Normally, the wire used to connect our home electricity to the air conditioner is 4 square. If it is a portable ground-free 3.5kw charger, it can be directly plugged into the air conditioner socket for charging. If it is a charging pile, it must be connected to a 4 square wire (if the distance between the electricity meter and the parking space is too far, it is recommended to use a 6 square wire). A 7kw charging pile or charger uses a set of cables alone. At least 6 square or more wires must be connected. The ground wire must be connected. If the wiring distance is far, it is recommended to use a 10 square wire. Safety first, the cost of 10 square wires and 6 square wires is not much different.


In addition, the rated current of a 7kw home charging pile is 32A, and the air switch connected to the line requires 40A or 60A. If the line is overcurrent or overvoltage, the air switch can play a protective role in time.
